    Yourself...

    Quit lookin' at my eye.

    Down...

I got down on my kitchen floor and took this picture.
I like the perspective in this photo.

    Grow...

Last summer, my mother-in-law gave me some rosemary clippings that she took from her garden.
I decided to put several in water to grow roots for planting later.
These clippings have literally doubled their sizes while resting on my kitchen window ledge.
    I absolutely love rosemary!

    Firsts Suck...

    That title is an understatement.

Today is my first birthday without my Dad.  I miss him terribly.

I don't know how to feel about today.  I just know a part of my world is missing something important.  It's going to be a hard day.  I'll be waiting for a sign from him, something, anything to let me know he's near.

Maybe I'll just come home from work and go to sleep.  Yeah, maybe that'll be the plan.

That is all.  I hope your day is better than mine.

    Birthday, shmirthday...

    Through...

I never wanted to go through this.
I knew the day would come eventually, but I never expected it would come so soon.  We weren't ready.  We still had so much to do.
I miss my Dad.  Tomorrow is my first birthday without him.
It's going to be a hard day for me, yet I know he'll be with me in spirit.
I love you, Dad.  Perhaps you'll make an appearance in some way.

    Sun...

One of my favorite plays ever!

    Together...

Liesl and Leia are always together.
They are best friends and mortal enemies.  I guess that comes with the territory...3yo twins.
It's incredibly hard to take a picture of them without it being blurry because they're always on the move.

    Landscape...

This is one of my favorite photos from our vacation last summer.
I love it for many reasons.

    Stripes...

This is one of my favorite sweaters that the twins take turns wearing.
It goes down to the mid-thigh and has a cute hood.  Best sweater ever!  There's something about pink and brown together...  I love it!

    Electric...

I have four children between 3yo-7yo.
I can't remember when the last time was that I could "unbabyproof" my electrical outlets.
    I'm okay with that.

    Corner...

I hit my leg on this corner pretty much every day, multiple times.
You should see my right thigh.  I literally have a permanent bruise.
    So not fun.

    What I Do...

    The dreaded testing...
I am a teacher; testing days are so boring!
I'd much rather be active with my students in my classroom, than proctoring tests.
    Ugh.

    Something I Saw...

I watched my beautiful daughter, Liv, devour a book the other night.
I absolutely love when she gets lost in a good book.

    Delicious...

I enjoyed a creamy chocolate martini at home on New Year's Eve.
And then I went to sleep.  Such is the life of an old woman!

    Shadow...

Leia is my shadow when I come home from work each day.  She never leaves my side.
And she bears an uncanny resemblance to my Gram.

    Ready...

Yes, this is what time I wake up to get ready for work.
    Insane, right?

    Two Things...

My youngest two children...Liesl and Leia.
My oldest two children...Jack and Liv.

    An Ordinary Moment...

Just an ordinary moment at my Mom's house...
We like to call it Art Class.

    Something Yellow...

This is our revised school calendar, which is posted on a cabinet in my kitchen.
We MUST know when the next day off is at all times.

    Circle...

Pierogies with bacon bits, polish sausage with peppers and onions, and a healthy dollop of sour cream...
We call the polish sausage "meat coins" and the girls devour them!
    Everyone loves circular food!

    Surprise...

I went to the back of my classroom and thought I saw a large cockroach out of the corner of my eye.
Alas, it was just a splatter from a  pen that probably got stepped on.
Nevertheless, I was "buggy" all day.
I was reading a magazine at the doctor's office and I came across this article.  Ugh.
I was so surprised by it that I had to snap a photo of the title just to put it here for today.
Planting your placenta in your yard is one thing; eating it is just...very different.  I would not do that, but I wish I'd been able to keep all four of mine; I would've done something creative with them.  Heh.
Painting with placentas...it has a catchy ring to it.

    Water...

Water, like wind, can be peaceful or turbulent.
This water is violently pouring out of my dishwasher into the sink.
    To me, it's calming.

    One O'Clock...

One o'clock is the time that all the middle school students go back to classes after lunch or recess.
The hallways are always chaotic at that time.

    Paper...

    Papers to be graded...
It's like the mail; it never stops.
    Heh.

    Table...

This is what happens to a beautiful coffee table when you have four children in four-and-a-half years.
    Heh.

    Street...

This is looking out onto my street from my front door.
    Exciting, right?

    Mine...

    This necklace is mine.
It was a Secret Santa present from my wonderful niece. I love it!

    Movement...

One of my favorite pictures of Liv that I took in the summer of 2011...
You can feel the movement of the swing.

One of my favorite pictures of Jack that I took in the summer of 2011...
The sweat, the pink cheeks, the wind blowing through his hair...I get tired just looking at him.

The movement and rhythm of a long car ride always puts Liesl and Leia to sleep,
especially if they have a food coma.  Heh.

Okay, so I posted three photos instead of just one.  There's no rule against that, is there?

    The View From Here...

This was the view from my loveseat the other day.
Liv and I were chatting and I couldn't resist taking this picture of her. She was just so natural here.
Such a beauty!  She seems so much older and wiser than six years old.

    Heart...

    This is Liv's latest masterpiece.
She got this in a kit for Christmas.  The heart is made of 3/4" thick wood, was originally white, and it had the writing on it already.  Liv colored it and glued on jewels all over it; you can see the jewels if you zoom in on the picture.  She's such a little hippie! This is hanging up in her room now.
    She's so proud of it!

    Something New...

This is a new toy that Jack got for Christmas.
He uses the lighted stylus to draw designs on it as the inside spins around.  It's made by Crayola, but I forget what it's called.  He loves it!

    Today...

Yes, I'm going to do this photo challenge this month.  It keeps my mind from wandering too far into a negative zone and putting it in writing.  Below is my photo for today...

Yes, it's a boring photo.  I changed my calendar today, just like everyone else in the world did.  It's a rather meaningless thing, but I have a lot of hopes attached to 2013.  My hope is that it is a better year than 2012 was because 2012 was one of the worst years of my life.  I try and think of all the good things that happened in it, but they are all foreshadowed by the one thing that rocked my world; my father's death at the beginning of November.  I can barely remember anything that happened prior to that, but I sure can recall every feeling I felt every minute since that horrible day.

I want peace in 2013; peace for my family and peace in my heart.
Is that too much to ask for?

    Frohes Neues Jahr...

Like I wrote yesterday, I sure hope 2013 is a lot gentler and kinder to my family and me.  That's all I want.  Last year truly sucked.

That is all.  Frohes neues Jahr, folks.

(Come back in a half hour.  I have another post in queue; the January 2013 photo-a-day challenge.)
