    Yin & Yang...

Did you know this? I can't remember if I knew this or not, so I'm going to file it in my vault of trivial information that may come in handy someday.

My Dog's Bed Is Our Couch...

I really need to send this picture to my mother-in-law. She would totally understand! Heh.

    Sobering...

Think of all the M&M's you've eaten in your lifetime.
This is a sobering moment, isn't it? Heh.

    Read, People, Read!...

This is amazing and it kills me how so many parents out there don't reinforce reading in the home. I am raising my own little bookworms because I love reading and they see me do it all the time. To them, it's not a chore; it's fun!

Read, people, and let your kids see you doing it! Good habits can become just as contagious as bad ones.

    Packed & Ready...

We packed their backpacks last night. It's the first time all four kids will be out of the house and at school. A part of me loves it and a part of me is very sad.

I have my first day with students. Jack will be in third grade. Liv will be in second grade. Liesl and Leia will be in preschool in the mornings. All four kids will be in three different schools. One day, they'll all be in one school, but for now, it is what it is.

Seeing these backpacks packed full of their supplies makes me anxious, but excited, too.  I can't help but feel they are on the cusp of an exciting new adventure. On the other hand, my babies are all growing up so quickly. It's bittersweet. I just wish I could see all of them off in the morning and be there to help them greet their teachers.

I cannot wait to come home from work to find out all about their day at school. Until then, they will be on my mind all day long. Work needs to go by really quickly for me or I'll go insane from the anticipation.

    Sibling Love...

I love when the kids can play without fighting over toys. This is proof that they don't always want to kill each other!

    New Beginnings...

I found out Thursday evening that Jack's teacher did not return to his school because she found a job elsewhere.  I was really bummed out about it; I still am.  I was more pissed that I wasn't informed earlier about it, so that I could transition him smoothly.  However, I did what any good mother would do.  I contacted the school, sent out emails to everyone on his IEP team, including the principal.  I spoke with his new teacher, too, and filled him in on the significant progress Jack made in that class in the last two years with his previous teacher.  We spoke for quite a while.  In addition to a new teacher, Jack will have a few new classmates and will find out that he's lost a few classmates, too.  It's a whirlwind of changes coming for Jack on Monday.

His teacher is a young man with an ironic name.  He sounds sweet and kind.  I just hope he's up for the difficult job of dealing with the other kids in Jack's class whose behaviors are quite challenging.  Lucky for us, Jack never has behavior issues.  He's a diamond in the rough there.

In time, Jack's new teacher will see in him what the rest of us do.  I made sure I let him know that if he sets his expectations high, Jack will always rise to meet them.  It's the truth.

We sat Jack down and enthusiastically broke the news to him so that he wouldn't freak out about not seeing his previous teacher anymore.  He was most excited about learning that the bowling field trips would take place again.  Hopefully, that works out.

Fingers crossed for Monday.  I hope there is a good chemistry between Jack and his new teacher.  If so, it will be a great school year for him.  But like any parent of a child on the autism spectrum, I'm on edge because of this new beginning.  In the last four years, Jack has been in three schools and had four teachers.  If anyone can handle change, it's my son, which is totally NOT an autistic behavior at all.

Think good thoughts because This Mama will be a nervous wreck until I get home from work Monday afternoon and find out how his first day went.

    New Heights...

The first time we went to the waterpark last week, Jack climbed these 62 steps to go down an enclosed waterslide. He had no fear at all of the long dark tubes and got quite a rush going down both the slow and the fast waterslides. Take a guess how many times he climbed these stairs to go down the waterslides.

Yep, 112 times! You read that correctly. And that was only on ONE day. We wound up going there again. YOU do the math and add up how many flights that totals. A goddamned skyscraper, folks!

My boy never ceases to amaze me!

    Already?...

I took Liesl and Leia to meet their preschool teacher and see their classroom this past Tuesday. My babies are growing up. So bittersweet! Sigh...

    The Deer Whisperers...

For some reason, deer just flock to my children. They love them and the feeling is mutual. I have four of my very own deer whisperers!

Where The Trees Speak To You...

I snapped this photo last Friday after we had a five-mile nature walk deep in the forest of the Northwoods. It was hot and buggy and we were tired, but we hauled ass. We saw the falls, discovered a trail we'd never been on, and we made it out alive! It was an awesome day!

I miss my vacation! I want to go back! I could live there forever and learn to deal with the mosquitoes, wolves, giant flies, spooky spiders, and hornets.  There's something to be said about disconnecting from the outside world and surrounding yourself with nature at its purest.

I know why my Dad loved it up there so much and I'm pretty sure I've inherited that gene.
He knew it, too.  I might not care too much for fishing, but I could sit and watch the hummingbirds, the loons, the wild turkeys, and chipmunks all day long.  And the timberwolf we saw 25 feet from our front door, looking right at us, didn't seem to scare me one bit.  It was quite beautiful, actually.  And I think my Dad paid me a visit that day.

The incredible nature of the Northwoods of Wisconsin...  You can't find any place more beautiful, where the trees speak to you and you learn how to listen to them.

    Eating Clean...

Eating clean is a matter of changing your habits. If you are a parent, it's a crucial lesson for your kids to learn because you are setting an example for them to follow. It's not easy in the beginning, but it's a lifestyle change that's worth it. The less hands your food passes through, the better off you are.

I hope you enjoyed this week's posts.  If there are any pictures you could not see or they did not magnify enough when you clicked on them, I will be more than happy to email them to you!

    Alkaline Foods vs. Acidic Foods...

The second photo shows you what you should avoid (or consume very little of) because it's considered to be acidic. The commercial and fast food food industry wants you to eat crap because it's all about the almighty dollar. If you try to eat more foods that are closest to whole, then you are headed in the right direction. I hope this week's posts have been helpful!

    Alkaline Foods List #2...

Just like yesterday, click on the photos above to see them more clearly. Over the last several months, I have adopted an alkaline diet. I eat very little sugar, if at all. It took some discipline, but it is completely doable!

    The Root Cause Of Cancer...

Adopting an alkaline diet that is rich in foods that are more alkaline than acidic has been proven to help people who are battling cancer. If you starve the cancer cells, they cannot grow. Come back tomorrow to see some ideas for foods to add to your diet that are high in alkaline.

How To Battle A Sugar Craving...

There are so many ways to battle a sugar craving. These are just a few ways. Exercise is the best way, in my opinion. And lots of water! Sugar is like heroin; it's very hard to break that addiction. There's also a link between diabetes and cancer, particularly pancreatic cancer. Coincidence? I think not.

    How Cancer Feeds On Sugar...

It's a very clinical diagram, but there's a direct relation between cancer and sugar. The less sugar you eat, the better off you are. I've said it before, sugar is the devil. Come back tomorrow to see how you can ward off a sugar craving.

    Sugar & Your Immune System...

One more reason NOT to eat sugar... It suppresses the immune system, which puts you at a disadvantage when you need to fight an illness. Yet, when you have cancer, sugar is what you crave.

    Sugar Is The Devil...

All this week, I'm writing my posts around how sugar affects your body, particularly how it helps cancer cells survive. I will also be posting about how to make your body more alkaline so that cancer cells starve. Keep checking back daily to learn more about what I've been researching. Very important stuff!

    Energy...

This sign hangs in my classroom and outside my classroom door. I'm thinking of framing it and putting it up in my house, as well. To me, it speaks volumes.
