    The Witching Hour...

It's getting to be that time of year again. It's time to start the decorating madness that won't cease until the beginning of the new year. From Halloween to Christmas, our house is decked out in all kinds of festive crap. I guess it's time to start. The kids love it and so do I!

    Flying Monkeys...

        There's something about this picture
                 that just screams my name.

    Backpack Strategies...

I see so many kids every day wearing backpacks that are clearly too heavy for them. These are some strategies for making sure your child's backpack will not cause them permanent damage in the future. After all, you only get ONE back!  Click on the picture to enlarge it.  I am sure you will learn something from it.

Oh, this is just rich! I love this!

I have more cherry tomatoes than I know what to do with right now. And there are at least one hundred more green ones on that ONE plant that accidentally grew where I did NOT plant rocks.   It's as tall as me and as wide as I am tall. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to prop it back up and tie it over and over again. My wayward toe-mah-toe plant... It was a great summer for it!

I just wanted to let you know that those lovely chestnuts we picked last Saturday tasted AWFUL!  They were probably the worst thing I've ever tasted in my entire bitter, so downright nasty.  I roasted them according to the recipe and they made the house smell wonderful.  Eating them, however, was the worst gastronomic experience I've ever had.

    Never again, folks.  Never again.

I think we'll stick with using them as autumn decorations and leave the actual eating of them for the stupid squirrels.

Just thinking about those fucking things makes me want to vomit...

I scooped the pulp out of several cherry tomatoes from my garden and stuffed them with egg salad that was made with a little bit of mayo (I forgot just how good mayo tastes!) and horseradish mustard. Then I topped it off with fresh chives from my garden. The results were scrumptious! I will definitely make this again.

    Liv, age 7
    Jack, age 8
    Liesl, almost 4

    Leia, almost 4
All of my beautiful babies! How quickly they have grown! Sigh...

The kids and I picked a ton of chestnuts yesterday. It looks like I'm going to be stuck on Pinterest all day looking for recipes. Yay!

    I miss my Dad.
Every time I look at the night sky, I think of him and hope he is sending me some positive energy.
    I sure need it.
He's still here, right?  He's just not in the shape of a human body, right?  All life is energy and his energy has just been transferred to a different form, right?
I've been thinking about my Dad so much lately that I can't help but think he's trying to tell me something.  I know he's here with me, but you would never believe that, would you?  I swear he's near.  I can't explain it, but I know he's here.

Anyone who's familiar with teaching reading knows that what is on my desk is Descartes Vocabulary. I spent a lot of time printing these 59 terms, cutting them down to size, and gluing them on construction paper. I even had them laminated to post in my classroom as the kids learn the terms. Exciting, huh? Well, it is to me, I guess. Sigh...

    One of Those Days...

Have you ever wanted to say that to someone or people, in general? There are days when I catch myself before it comes out.

Thank goodness for the filter between my brain and my mouth.  It took a long time for that one to develop. Heh.

    Chemical Shit Storm...

Avoid "fat-free" and "low-fat" products.  It's a bunch of bullshit to make you think you're eating healthier.  If you want to eat healthier, then eat foods in their whole state; fresh and passed through the least amount of hands as possible.  THAT, my friends, is "eating healthy."

    The Law of Attraction...

Isn't this kind of like what the book, The Secret, was about? The Law of Attraction always made sense to me. Let's see what we attract by just thinking positively and giving off a positive vibe. Could this really work?

We weighed our kids this weekend. No particular reason, just curious.

Jack is 8yo and weighs 56#. He's over 4' tall now.
Liv is 7yo and weighs 54#. She's about 4' tall now.
Liesl will be 4yo next month and she weighs 35#. She's got to be a little over 3' tall now.
Leia is the same age as Liesl and she weighs 37#. She must be just a touch shorter than her twin now.

What shocked me the most was how much weight and height all of them have gained in the last 6mos-a year. And how the hell do I have a kid who weighs almost 60# now?!

They have literally grown overnight! Sigh...

    An Important Lesson...

Leaders don't care what people think and followers don't think at all. Choose the road less traveled, ladies. Stretch your own limits and don't let others place limits on you. You can do anything.  One of these days, I hope my girls will read this and understand what it means.

As a parent AND a teacher, this makes so much sense to me.
Every parent and every teacher should see this.

    Man of My Dreams...

We've been together for half of our lives.  We've had one apartment, one house, six cars, two dogs, and four children in that time.  If given a chance to change things, I would never even consider it.  My handsome husband turns 41 years old today.  It's hard to believe that time is slipping by so quickly.  It seems like just yesterday we were sitting in a university physics course together, making fun of the professor, heading to the neighborhood bar in between classes, and having that first kiss outside in the pouring rain.  My heart will never tire of him.
Happy Birthday to my wonderful Husband!  You bring our family so much joy!  We love you more than words can describe!

    Ahhhhh, Friday!...

If you know me well, you know exactly what that other "F" word is. Heh.

Awwwwww, my littlest ones have their own lockers at school! I think I'm going to cry!
Where did the time go?  Weren't they JUST born?

    It's What I Do...

I met Jack's new teacher last night. I like him. I got great vibes from him. And Jack likes him, too. There are great things on the horizon for my boy. That's all that matters.

Tonight, I get to meet Liv, Liesl, and Leia's teachers. It's an Open House kind of week. I look forward to meeting their teachers.

I like meeting my children's teachers. I like for them to see my face as I shake their hands. You can't forget my eyes. We all work for the same school system. We are partners and have some common threads...our work and my children. I like to keep in frequent contact with all of them so they never forget me or my offspring.

I am a ball buster and my children's biggest fan. I get shit done and nobody messes with them once they know Mom will be all over them like an ant on pudding. I'm just sayin'.  I don't hover, by any  means, but I make sure no one ever fucks with them.  Ever.

I love my kids. It's what I do.

It pains me to know my kids will be in schools where there is no AC. This September heat is ridiculous! I can't see how anyone can learn in those temps! The AC at my school barely works, but it's better than being outside. I'll be so glad when autumn finally arrives.

    What I Need...

I am so ready for fall to begin. Spiced cider, sweater weather, butternut squash bisque, the smell of fireplaces, the colorful leaves...  I don't know about you, but I'm ready for the change of seasons. Fall has always been my favorite.

    What It's All About...

Yes, all four of my children are in this picture. They may be a blur, but that's because they are bouncing like crazy!  Fun times they'll never forget... That's what it's all about.

    Raising Bookworms...

I am raising a house full of bookworms. It's what we do. Reading Time happens every day. Liv is seven years old and reads at a seventh grade level. She read nine 300-page books over the summer. She helps set the tone.

Reading... It's what you're supposed to do. Period.

    My Family...

They mean the world to me!

    Thursday, September 05, 2013

Guess who gets to go to the same school their big sister goes to? Yep, Liesl and Leia! Instead of having four kids in three different schools, now we only have to deal with two schools! Makes life a lot easier here, that's for sure. Today is Liesl and Leia's first day at their new school. Hubby will transfer them from the old to the new one while they are in class at the new one.

It's a long, long story so I won't go into it right now. However, it's good to know important people and be in the right place at the right time.

Someone up there is looking out for us; I'm pretty sure about that. Thanks, Dad!

    Almond Milk...

I have done this and I love it! I don't use the almond meal for anything; I usually discard it. Have you ever made your own almond milk? What do you use the almond meal for? Just curious.

It ain't over least, not HERE!

    Monday, September 02, 2013

Oh, how I love this! And anyone who knows me well totally knows why.
Doesn't sarcasm qualify as a second language?

    Burn, Baby, Burn...

Holy cow! All of these together will burn 1,000 calories?!  I suppose if you do it seven days in a row, you could lose two pounds in one week.  One pound of fat is 3,500 calories, so if these exercises are done every day for thirty days, one could lose a little over 8 pounds. Incredible, if you can do it and keep up with it religiously!
